Brooke Shields has been in the public eye since she turned 11 months old, when she shot a commercial for Ivory Snow soap. By the time she was 12, Shields had been propelled to international stardom by Louis Malle’s Pretty Baby. Blue Lagoon made her a teenage fantasy, and Franco Zeffirelli’s Endless Love made her a heartthrob. Since then, Shields has modeled, received two Golden Globe nominations, and starred in countless T.V. series and films.

Shields, now 59, lives in a West Village townhouse with her husband, Chris Henchy. She’s the president of the Actor’s Equity Association, the founder and C.E.O. of the haircare brand Commence, the mother of two daughters, and the author of the upcoming memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old. The book confronts women’s ascent into middle age with personal anecdotes and well-researched reporting. While awaiting its release next year, Shields is spending the summer in Southampton, enjoying long days by the beach.
